original Silver Georgian Rock Crystal riviere necklace

These necklaces from the Georgian era were very popular and sought after. Often, they were part of larger parures which would consist of marching earrings, bracelets, and a brooch. Georgian rock crystal foil backed riviere necklaces are becoming more and more rare.

The riviere was the classic Georgian necklace for night time wear.

The necklace has graduated collet set oval rock crystal stones linked together showing mostly stones and very little chain

The clear colour are enhanced by the closed back setting characteristic of Georgian jewellery craftsmanship. The foil behind the stones in the setting often imparts its own colour. The closed back setting also traps the right creating more brilliance from the colour.

These riviere necklaces were made in many gem stones, including yellow or pink topaz, amethyst and even paste. Today, many ladies like to wear several of them layered.
